Do You Need to Send 1099s?
Are you wondering if your business needs to file a 1099? If you’ve paid someone who is not an employee for work or services this year, you likely have to file Form 1099-NEC. Failure to do so could result in fines from the IRS.
If your payment meets the four following conditions, you likely need to report the payment to the IRS on a 1099.
- You made the payment to someone who is not your employee;
- You made the payment for services in the course of your business (including government agencies and nonprofit organizations);
- You made the payment to an individual, partnership, LLC or estate;
- You made payments totaling at least $600 during the year with a check or ACH.
1099 services are an important part of working as an independent contractor or freelancer. They ensure that you are reporting all of your income to the IRS and paying the correct amount of taxes.
If you have any questions, reach out to our team! We can help walk you through the process and whether or not you are required to file a 1099.
